Rice University faculty will no longer have to go off campus to conduct national media interviews about their research or breaking news commentary, thanks to the launch of Rice’s new VideoLink ReadyCam® TV studio this week. The studio is in Allen Center next to Rice’s photography studio.

“Rice faculty have a broad and deep well of expertise that the news media – in all its venues in this digital age – have increasingly tapped in recent years to inform their reporting and help the public better understand the many complex issues of the day,” said Linda Thrane, vice president for public affairs at Rice. “The new studio will make that Rice expertise much more accessible to the media and the public. This is an exciting new tool that will serve Rice faculty, the news media and the public well.”

The new ReadyCam® studio camera system is capable of transmitting broadcast-quality standard-definition and high-definition video directly to all news media organizations around the world 24/7.

The studio will also be used for faculty media training, recorded in-house interviews for Rice News stories and news releases, expert commentary for media pitches and other video projects produced by Rice’s News and Media Relations office.

Members of the news media who want to learn more about Rice’s new studio or would like to schedule an interview should contact David Ruth, director of national media relations, at druth@rice.edu or 713-348-6327.

Located on a 300-acre forested campus in Houston, Rice University is consistently ranked among the nation’s top 20 universities by U.S. News & World Report. Rice has highly respected schools of Architecture, Business, Continuing Studies, Engineering, Humanities, Music, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and is known for its “unconventional wisdom.” With 3,708 undergraduates and 2,374 graduate students, Rice’s undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio is less than 6-to-1. Its residential college system builds close-knit communities and lifelong friendships, just one reason why Rice has been ranked No. 1 for best quality of life multiple times by the Princeton Review and No. 4 for “best value” among private universities by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
