VideoLink recently provided production and transmission services for the Boston International Live Endoscopy Course (BILEC) for the eighth year in a row.
Boston International Live Endoscopy Course (BILEC) is a unique live teaching course hosted by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Dr. Ram Chuttani. Over 60 challenging endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures were performed by leading teams of doctors from BIDMC, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Rhode Island Hospital and Selayang Hospital in Malaysia. These live procedures were then transmitted to the Westin Waterfront in Boston, MA where over 1,000 professionals in the Gastroenterological field gathered to participate in the course which was moderated by a team of experts in the GI field.
VideoLink camera crews broadcast the live procedures and transmitted them via fiber and satellite to the Westin Waterfront and to additional hospitals viewing in Puerto Rico and Mexico. For the first time the program also included a videoconference from Malaysia over an Internet 2 connection, an Internet system with increased bandwidth strictly available to hospitals and higher education facilities. Additionally, this year marks the first time there had been a worldwide live web cast of the entire event. “VideoLink was extremely pleased to be able to make this event a worldwide production by enabling anyone who registered on the website to become a part of this educational experience and receive Continuing Medical Education credits” stated Howard Miller, President of VideoLink.
