VideoLink Inc. is expanding its High Definition services at its Newton, MA headquarters with a fully HD-equipped live shot insert studio and the ability to feed HD tapes.  The new capabilities provide clients with leading-edge production and transmission HD broadcast solutions. 

The new equipment in VideoLink's HD insert studio includes an Ikegami HD camera, which outputs a native 1080i signal.  VideoLink's control room is outfitted with an AJA FS1 cross converter that allows the output of both 1080i and 720p HD video as well as 4:3 and 16:9 SD video for the best variety of production options.  HD tape playout services are offered in the DVCPRO HD format, HDV formats and the ability to feed from any camera or deck that outputs an HD-SDI signal.

To transmit these HD tape and insert studio feeds, VideoLink uses HD encoding for transmission through a Tiernan HD4040 MPEG2 encoder, which is capable of encoding 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 video and up to eight channels of audio.  The encoded video is then passed as ASI over a 270Mb local circuit to reach destination points via the Vyvx/Level 3 Network.

VideoLink continues to provide clients with remote location HD production and transmission needs with its HDNG offerings including its Ku uplink truck "Lobster", HD production flypack and its HD-equipped remote crews.
