History

During the late 1970s, the major broadcast networks began shutting down their bureaus in cities across the country. Over time, it became apparent that the networks still needed a presence in many major cities. Enter Doug Weisman and Dean Gaskill, the founders of VideoLink, who understood the networks' need for a reliable source of production and transmission, in a convenient and cost-effective package.

In the fall of 1992, fiber optic circuits were installed at 50 Hunt Street in Watertown and VideoLink was born. The company started by offering ABC, NBC and CBS tape transmission services. When a news crew covered an unfolding story in New England, they went to VideoLink, edited their tape and transmitted their story to air on the evening news broadcasts.

That same year, VideoLink's third partner, Gina Chudnow, began as Director of Operations and was promoted to President in short order. While instrumental in establishing the company's unique culture of warmth and professionalism, Gina has spearheaded VideoLink's growth and expansion to make it the diversified regional production company it is today.

The last few years have been a time of growth and innovation: We've designed four customized satellite uplink vehicles, installed ReadyCams® in more than 70 companies and have expanded to include our new VLCreative division which focuses on creating marketing communications solutions including live event theming, staging and production and video scripting, production and post-production. We've also moved from our Watertown facility after 15 years to a new 20,000 square foot facility in Newton, MA. We now have over 55 employees across all our locations. VideoLink also has full service facilities in Philadelphia (opened in 1999), Baltimore (opened in 2003) and an insert studio in Downtown Boston (opened in 2005).

After the passing of Dean Gaskill in 2005, Gina Chudnow assumed the role of CEO and Howard Miller was promoted from General Manager to President. Doug Weisman serves as Chairman.

Our clients include major cable and broadcast networks such as CNBC, CNN, FoxNews, FoxBusiness, Bloomberg, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and ESPN. We also work with corporations such as GlaxoSmithKline, Virgin, Ltd., MediaLink, Ocean Spray, PTC, BlackRock Financial and Symantec.

Major projects have included the production for CNBC of 10 (and counting) road shows for Mad Money with Jim Cramer; 8 years of the Boston International Live Endoscopy Course linking 6 hospitals in New England and in Europe for three days of live procedures broadcast via satellite, and the muti-camera Borders series, "Advice for Living with Mel Robbins" broadcast live on the web from their Boston store location.
